IGNITX Reflects on the Success of Safeguarding Training for Paris 2024 Security Personnel
October 15, 2024|News
In partnership with Spartner, IGNITX successfully delivered a comprehensive Safeguarding training program for security personnel at five key Paris 2024 Olympic Games venues. This initiative, fully aligned with the Paris 2024 Organising Committee's standards, aimed to equip security teams to identify, prevent, and address potential transgressive behaviours within the venues.
Training Overview
The core objectives of the training were to create awareness around transgressive behaviours, provide clear procedures for security personnel, and offer practical examples through case studies. The training was meticulously designed in three parts to suit the specific needs of the audience:
- Mandatory Online Training: Offering a foundational understanding of safeguarding issues.
- Brochures in English and French: Summarising key information and procedures.
- Webinar and Q&A Session: Providing an interactive environment where security personnel could discuss scenarios and receive certification.
Working with IGNITX has been a game-changer for our security personnel's safeguarding training. Their comprehensive approach and expert-led content have truly elevated our preparedness for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. We were confident that our team was well-equipped to ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone working and attending the Games in the 5 venues managed by SPARTNER with the Event Delivery Model.
Focus Areas
The training included critical elements such as:
- Transgressive behaviour definitions: Clear descriptions of unacceptable conduct.
- Prevention and Protection: Practical strategies for mitigating risks.
- Rules and Laws: Aligning actions with legal obligations.
- Paris 2024 Methodology: “Observe, Listen, and Orient” to respond effectively to incidents.
- Reporting Mechanisms and Responsibilities: Ensuring accountability.
- Case Studies: Real-life scenarios to enhance understanding.
Creating the educational materials for the safeguarding training of security personnel for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was an incredible opportunity. IGNITX’s goal was to develop practical, engaging content that empowers the team to handle sensitive situations with confidence and professionalism. We are proud to contribute to such an important initiative and help set a new standard for safeguarding in large-scale events.
Impressive Results
The response to the training program has been overwhelmingly positive:
- 70% of participants who watched the video class took the certification exam, with a 98% approval rate.
- Paris 2024’s Ethics and Compliance area provided positive feedback, praising the local initiative.
- All participating security companies received authorisation to use the brochures beyond the Games as a legacy tool.
- The training fostered organic discussions on transgressive behaviour among security agents, reflecting increased awareness and proactive attitudes.
A Broader Focus on Safeguarding at IGNITX
Safeguarding in sport is a significant focus stream of IGNITX, alongside our work in Event Management. In addition to the Paris 2024 project, we have completed other key initiatives, such as the Safeguarding Workshop for International Federations organised by GAISF on behalf of the IOC and being a key partner of the BESST project.
IF Safeguarding Workshop
This workshop had an impressive 57 International Federations (IFs) in attendance, with participants rating the workshop 4.22 out of 5. Notably, 87% of attendees expressed interest in future Safeguarding workshops. The relevance of the topic and the open discussion format were particularly appreciated.
IGNITX developed and delivered all the content to participants via engaging and open discussions. The methodology used aimed to initiate the discussion within each of the organisations. More information can be found here.
IGNITX’s Role in the BESST Project
Beyond individual workshops, IGNITX is proud to be a key player in the Building European Safe Sport Together (BESST) project, funded by the European Commission's Erasmus+ Programme. The BESST project aims to develop a modern framework for tackling harassment and abuse in sport. IGNITX's contributions include:
- Surveying and benchmarking global safe sport initiatives.
- Developing a legal framework for sports organisations and events.
- Creating an awareness campaign toolkit for dissemination across European sports organizations.
The project is set to deliver its full outcomes by December 2024.
