IGNITX, Safe Sport International and Re.Events Launch a Global Safeguarding in Sport Survey 2026
March 18, 2026|News|Safeguarding
IGNITX has partnered with Safe Sport International (SSI) and Re.Events to implement the Global Safeguarding in Sport Survey 2026, a new international initiative designed to generate structured insight into how safeguarding systems are implemented across sport organisations worldwide.
The collaboration brings together complementary expertise from three organisations working to strengthen governance and safety in sport. IGNITX leads the initiative through its experience in safeguarding systems, governance frameworks and sport event operations. Re.Events contributes advanced data analytics capabilities that support the transformation of survey responses into structured analysis and comparable findings. Safe Sport International will support global dissemination of the results and facilitate dialogue across the safeguarding community, including through the SSI Global Conference 2026 in South Africa, where the findings will be presented.
For IGNITX, the initiative reflects the organisation’s continued investment in strengthening safeguarding practice through both operational implementation and evidence-based insight.
This initiative reinforces IGNITX’s growing role as a trusted partner in the design and implementation of safeguarding systems in sport — from policy and education to reporting tools, governance support and safeguarding delivery at sport organisations. Reliable global data is essential if the sport sector is to move from intention to measurable progress.
The survey collects information across three levels of sport governance — National Olympic Committees (NOCs)/ National Sport Organisations (NSO) , International Federations (IFs), and National Federations (NFs) — examining the existence and maturity of safeguarding frameworks, reporting mechanisms, education & training initiatives, and full case management procedures within sport organisations.
The questionnaire is intended to be completed by the individuals within each organisation responsible for safeguarding, integrity, safe sport, welfare, ethics, compliance, governance, or related oversight functions. Where no dedicated safeguarding officer exists, organisations are encouraged to identify the most appropriate senior individual responsible for these matters to respond on behalf of the organisation.
Re.Events will support the analytical component of the initiative, applying its data intelligence systems to transform responses into structured analysis that enables comparison and interpretation across the global sport landscape.
Events and sport organisations generate significant amounts of information, but its value emerges only when it is structured and translated into insight. Through our long-term partnership with IGNITX and this initiative, our analytical systems will help turn survey responses into meaningful findings that support stronger event management and safeguarding practice across the sector.”
The results of the Global Safeguarding in Sport Survey 2026 will be presented at the Safe Sport International Global Conference 2026 in South Africa, bringing together sport leaders, safeguarding practitioners and researchers to discuss the findings and their implications for sport governance worldwide. The final report will be made publicly available free of charge, reinforcing the partners’ shared commitment to transparency and knowledge sharing.
Creating safer sporting environments requires collaboration, transparency and the willingness to learn from evidence. By supporting the dissemination of this study and the dialogue around its findings, SSI aims to strengthen the global conversation on safeguarding in sport.
The Global Safeguarding in Sport Survey builds on earlier work conducted within the Building European Safe Sport Together (BESST) project funded by the Erasmus+ programme from the European Commission, where IGNITX led a survey among European National Olympic Committees and National Federations to assess the implementation of safeguarding systems across the continent. Maintaining the same methodological framework allows the 2026 survey to extend that work globally while preserving comparability in the analysis. The results of the BESST study remain publicly available and continue to inform safeguarding development across sport 👉🏼 https://besst-safesport.eu/research/
